National Harvest Festival  - Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia -” (March)

Year after year, the first weekend of March, almost with no interruptions from 1936, Mendoza renews its main festival, the Harvest Festival (“Fiesta de la Vendimia”). This is the most important celebration for the people from Mendoza, since this is the tribute that the man devotes to his leading industry, the wine. The main events from the festival are: blessing of the fruits (“Bendición de Frutos”), white via of the queens (“Vía Blanca de las Reinas”), carousel,  (“Carrusel”) and the main event (“Acto Central” or ”Fiesta de la Vendimia”); a monumental spectacle of light and sound with more than 500 dancers and actors on stage, which culminates at midnight with the election and coronation of the New National Harvest Queen (“Reina Nacional de la Vendimia”), closed with an unparalleled display of fireworks that burst in the sky of Mendoza.

Visit the Uruguayan plane crash (available from November to March)

On October 13, 1972 a plane of the Uruguayan Air Force that was flying to Santiago de Chile with 45 passengers, most of all students and rugby players, crashed in the Andes. Twelve people died in the accident, while the rest survived under terrible conditions in the middle of the snowy mountains, until the end of December, when they could be rescued. This epic has been narrated in diverse books and films, being the most famous named “Viven!” Is advisable to have three days to make the trekking to reach the place where the rests of the aircraft are found.
